How much do we pay for internet access (and cable) in the dorms?

I apologize; I misspoke earlier. Internet is provided free in each UArts dorm via wifi and two internet ports. Students are encouraged to bring their own ethernet cable.

Cable is supplied by Comcast, and pricing / billing information can be received by contacting Comcast directly.

Can you further explain the cable service in the dorms? I believe I read somewhere that we sign up for it on move in day, but does that mean we pay monthly for it?

Regarding cable, interested students sign up through Comcast, so you will need to contact Comcast directly for specifics. Generally, Comcast does bill monthly.

Comcast provides cable service to interested students. As the contract is between the student and Comcast, questions about pricing or service would need to be directed to Comcast.

In general, appliances we don’t allow are things like air conditioners and heaters that run continuously even when no one is in the apartment and are superfluous (as heat and air conditioning are provided in all rooms).

Prescription medications, kept in their original container with your name on the label, are allowed in your possession within the residence halls.

Whoa! I had some bad information—I apologize.

All dorms have wifi and two internet ports. Students are encouraged to bring their own ethernet cables.

Comcast is on campus during move-in to sign students up for cable services.

Internet services may be purchased through Comcast; wifi is not available. A Comcast representative will be on campus during move-in to assist you in signing up for their services (phone, internet, cable).

For our incoming students, The Office of Residential Life has compiled a list of items included in our dorm rooms, items that you should bring, and items that are prohibited in our Residence Halls.

Don’t panic if you forget something, there are many stores in Philadelphia and it is easy to get whatever basics you might need. Additionally, you and your roommates may want to plan for additional items once you have moved in.

Hi! Great question. Indeed, coffee makers / brewers / Keurigs are welcome in the dorms. The student handbook is a wealth of information, including a list of items prohibited in the dorms, though this is subject to change. A list of items that may / should be brought for the dorms will be mailed to each deposited student with the housing agreement.

I got invited to apply for the Honors program, but I got so caught up with end of the year school stuff that I forgot to apply. Do you know if they're still accepting applications for incoming students? Thanks!

Do the dorms have a phone jack?

Here’s the scoop on phone jacks: most rooms have them. UArts does not provide phones or phone service, but Comcast is on site during Move In to sign students up for service (cable, internet, phone), and they will install a jack if your room does not have one and you would like phone service. For further information, contact the Office of Student Life or Comcast.

i am applying for spring semester. does financial aid work differently when entering on an off term?

Hi! Thanks for your question. Financial aid works the same for Fall and Spring semesters. While there is only one priority postmark deadline for FAFSA submission of new students (March 1st), we accept FAFSA submissions at any time. Feel feel free to contact Student Financial Services directly for assistance with financial aid.

UPDATE from Student Financial Services: “For students entering in an off-term, all University based financial aid is determined the same as it is s it is for students starting in the fall. However, some federal and state aid may be affected if the student was enrolled at another institution during the same academic year.”

Hey, waytoofunny! Congratulations! Our Directing, Playwriting & Production program holds about 16 students, which is a little more than one quarter of the applications received for DPP.

Can you take an elective that's in a department outside of your major? For example, if a student is in film, could s/he take a music class? (I'm not quite sure what the exact electives are but you get the idea)

Full time undergraduates take between 12 and 18 credits per semester. Courses are generally 3 credits, though electives and some core courses are 1.5 credits.

Full time matriculated graduate students must complete between 9 and 18 credits within an academic year.

You can find information about coursework by program in the 2012–2013 catalog. Please keep in mind that this catalog does not reflect the coursework for the 2013-2014 academic year.

There are no winter sessions.

Undergraduate programs do not begin in summer, but a couple of Graduate programs do—namely, MM Music Education and MFA Studio Art.

There are courses offered during summer sessions for student who are already attending the University, which are usually limited to the Liberal Arts, electives and some graduate courses. Students enroll for summer courses on a part-time, per credit basis.

Continuing Education also offers summer courses.

For students in grades 9–12, the University offers a competitive Pre-College Summer Institute.
